Sticky Hoi-sin Chicken Thighs

  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp orange or pineapple juice
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1.5 tbsp runny honey
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1.5 tsp chilli sauce
  • 1tsp 5 spice
  • slug of sesame oil
  • 6 chicken thighs
  • 1 tsp cornflour


  1. combine the first 8 ingredients in a bowl, add the chicken, mix well and leave to marinade for at least 30 minutes
  2. remove the chicken and cook slowly on the lower heat part of the barbecue for 15-20 minutes
  3. put the marinade in a pan and mix in the cornflour and cook until thickened
  4. pour some of the marinade over the chicken thighs on the barbecue and cook the thighs for another 15-20 minutes. Barbecue until the thighs are cooked through
  5. when cooked put the thighs in a bowl and cover with the remainder of the marinade sauce and serve.
