A lovely rich tasting mincemeat for Christmas.

  • 3.5lb mixed dried fruit
  • 8oz mixed peel
  • 1ib apples peeled and chopped
  • 4oz walnuts or almonds
  • 12oz muscovado sugar
  • 9oz suet
  • 1tsp mixed spice
  • rind and juice of 2 oranges and 2 lemons
  • 0.5 pint brandy


  1. Mix all of the ingredients together and cover for 2 hours. Mix and then place in sterilised jars, cover and seal. Makes 10lb.

      You bottle it and then only cook it when you put it in the pies. We used to make it every year….
