ThisĀ is lovely with anything, and makes a great sandwich with rocket and a shake of black pepper. You can make it using butter beans too.

  • 1 tin of chickpeas – but keep the liquid!
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (or for a lower fat version use the same amount of liquid saved from the tin of chickpeas)
  • 3 tbsp tahini
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper


  1. Whizz all the ingredients together in a food processor.
  2. If the mix is too thick add some of the water from the tin of chickpeas to loosen it up.
